Our aim is to promote Art in its broadest sense and the love of Art, Craft and Creativity in the Community and to facilitate Art/ Craft courses for young and old, in South Tipperary. News – February 2024

Adult Artists: The South Tipperary Art Group, STAG, Work Team have just completed painting all the boarded up windows and doors in Market Place, Clonmel, with great compliments from the huge numbers of people from the community that pass by each day! It’ been a slow task and  taken us nearly 10 weeks to complete as adverse weather conditions were not always suitable though we painted many’s the day in the freezing cold! We have just also completed the mural for the little ones in Cherry Blossom  ASD Unit in  St. Mary’s Boys School, Irishtown. It will be handed over when the varnish is fully dry next week. A special word of thanks to Medite of Europe who donated the life Span MDF Board for this mural.. There are a few more projects in the pipeline which will be announced shortly. Artworks  by Adult STAG members can be bought  by contacting the Organiser 0868096823 at any stage andthese  Artworks are hanging in , Befani’s Restaurant, The Showgrounds, the Leisure Centre, Hotel Minella, The Outpatient’s Corridor, Tipperary University Hospital and in Slievenamon Golf Club.

Junior STAG, We are now fully booked for the 5 week  current session which runs up to Easter.  A waiting list is in operation for the after Easter session . Contact the Organiser above for membership of either the Primary Section ( age 9 to 6th class)   and Seniors ( 1st year to Leaving Certs.).

News -December 2023

Junior STAG along with 6 th Class boy’s from Ss. Peter and Paul’s Primary school have now finished their Mosaic made with bottle tops and jewellery. The Mosaic is now hanging in Clonmel Library and has attracted a lot of positive comment. Do pop in and have a look! Also while in the Library check out the Library Christmas Shared Exhibition there – it’s a great exhibition which includes  STAG member, Winnie’s painting of ‘Cherries’, a beautiful watercolour, which was selected from a number of other submissions from Adult STAG Art Group!

STAG Adult Artists have paintings for sale in Befani’s Restaurant, The Showgrounds, The Hospital Outpatients Corridor and Slievenamon Golf Club.  For that very special gift that lasts forever think of buying an Artwork by a STAG member!  Contact The Organiser at 0868096823 e-mail to buy an Artwork or for any other info also.

The STAG Work-team are currently busy painting in Market Place while also repainting the Decorations for the Roundabout at Tesco and finishing off the mural for Cherry Blossom Unit in St. Mary’s CBS. Irishtown! The Clonmel Rowing Club Crest is now complete and awaiting collection. 

Junior Art have just two more Saturdays before the Christmas holidays which are on Saturday 9th and 16 th at 12 O’ Clock. Please attend.

One of our Adult STAG members – Mary, is tutoring the Seniors in Felting at the moment with outstanding results.

The Primary Section will finish their artwork for their Hero s Booklet on Saturday and make Christmas cards also.

News – November 2023

Left, Paul and Pat Clonmel Library Staff, Keith, Men’S Shed, Vinny, STAG Artist, Anne Marie, Librarian, Maureen, STAG Organiser, Tony, STAG Artist and Tom, Library Staff in Clonmel Library Friday 24 th. November’23 having Just hung up the Mosaic, The Valley of Slievenamon! This mosaic has been gifted to the Library by the STAG Organiser and was made by some of the 6th Class boys( now in Post Primary Schools) and some of Junior STAG artists with three of the Organiser’s Grand daughters, Grace and Lucy , NZ and Heidi, Clonmel .

The mosaic started its life in mid June using many bottle tops collected by all the young people , Junior STAG Artists, STAG Adults and members of the public ( with Jewellery and buttons also) and continued during the summer until Late October under the eagle eye of the STAG Organiser, Maureen, and the finishing touches of the frame and resin were done by STAG Artists ,Tony, Audrey and Dolores. As always our official Photographer/videographer, Web designer, Web site and Facebook Admin. is Robert Cantwell.

The STAG Art Work Team are very busy at the moment,  painting the hoardings on the doors and windows at Market Place, Clonmel.  It’s  slow work as all of the panels had to be undercoated  before we could put any designs on them. However,  slowly but surely we’re getting there! It’s amazing to us  how many people pass though Market Place every day and  we’d like to thank the public for their lovely comments on our Artwork!

Junior STAG Art Membership is now full in both the Primary and  Senior Sections for this session which continues on Saturday mornings  up to and including Dec. 16th.  A waiting list is in operation for the new Session in January 2024. Contact the Organiser at 0868096823 for info. 

The Seniors did a workshop on Sat. 18th with Artist, Moran -Been-Noon in the STAC Chapel at the  Barracks Plaza., courtesy of the South Tipperary Arts Centre.  Only 15 of the 25 Seniors were available  but those that attended  thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Meanwhile, The Primary Group, motored on with their drawing and painting  for the ‘ My  Heros ‘ booklet which will be completed by December.

New Course A new  six week Junior STAG Art Course  (Primary Group, 9 years to  6th class and Seniors 1st. Year to Leaving Certs)  will commence  on this coming Sat 11th November up to and incl. Sat 16th December  in the Art Room. Infant school, behind St. Peter and Paul’s Primary School, Kickham St. Clonmel.

Adult STAG Art: The STAG Work Team are busy at the moment,  painting Artwork on the MDF Life Span panels for the Cherry Blossom  ASD School in St. Mary’s CBS , Irishtown  as well as repainting all the Artwork for the Halloween Roundabout at Tesco on the Bypass. We have just finished painting the main Hoarding up at St. Anthony’s Unit, St. Luke’s Hospital, off the Glenconnor Rd  Congrats. to Tony and Liuda ,  whose paintings sold last week , Tony’s  of ‘ Deer at Dawn’ sold in the Cahir Arts Exhibition and   Liuda’s painting of 2 geese called ‘ Well, Hello There!’ from the Showgrounds Shopping Centre.  New Artwork is now hanging  in the Outpatient’s Corridor in Tipperary University Hospital, Clonmel. Junior STAG: Primary Group (9 years to 6th Class)have completed their individual mosaics using bottle tops and they are now in Halloween mode so many great artworks  will be done with scary and weird images in the next 2 weeks!   The Seniors have completed their Animation which after hours of editing and uploading the images by Bobby , will be up and running on screen and will be entered into an  Animation Competition in Dingle shortly.. All Seniors are asked to Please have proper  B Series drawing pencils from a B right up to B 8/10 as intensive drawing will take place over the next 2 Saturdays!

ADULT STAG: 

The STAG Work Group put up 29 artworks in the Outpatient’s Corridor in Tipperary University Hospital during the week. They are a great talking point for staff and patients again as it’s been nearly a year since we’ve had STAG Artworks hanging there because of renovations to the Pharmacy on the other side of the wall!

The Wednesday morning STAG Group will meet again upstairs in the Arts Centre at 10. 30. For info contact the Organiser.

It was great to see so many back at STAG on Tuesday night again.

News – August 2023

 JUNIOR STAG ART , both Primary ( 9 years to 6th class) and Seniors(1st Year to Leaving Certs) will return on Saturday 16th Sept in the Infant School, Ss. Peter and Paul’s Primary School, Kickham St., Clonmel at 10. 30 to 12 Noon. Prospective new members should contact the Organiser at 0868096823 by Monday 11th. Sept. and former members must book in also. The mosaic by Junior STAG with the 6th Class boys from the school is now nearly complete and will be hung in a public space soon. Congratulations to all involved.

No words can express our deep sorrow at the tragic loss of four beautiful young people over the weekend, especially as some of our Junior STAG members are Leaving Cert. pupils also.  Thinking of the families and friends who now have to come to terms with the consequences of this awful accident on Friday night. May  Luke, Grace, Nicole and Zoey Rest in Peace with the Angels ! 

ADULT STAG:    Members of Adult Work Team have been very busy over the summer , painting the 200 ft.  Hoarding up at St. Anthony’s Unit, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Clonmel which is just about finished now. Well worth checking out! We’ve also painted the Bench in Parnell St. with big bright flowers, for Tipperary Co. Council. A number of STAG Adult members will visit Kenmare again this year for a week’s Plein Air Painting and great craic! STAG Adult Art  returned on Tuesday night 12th September to the Art Room Sts. Peter and Paul’s School and  on will return on Wednesday morning  20th September upstairs   in the Arts Centre, Nelson St., Clonmel.  New members, with some knowledge of Art/Craft  are always welcome at these sessions. Sincere Sympathy to one of STAGT’s Work Team, Bartley and the Burke Family on the untimely death of his beloved wife,  Phil. May She Rest in Peace.

STAG Members at the launch of 2023 Exhibition

The Primary Group in Junior STAG have commenced their new and last Art Session for the Summer Season, on Saturday 10th June for 4 Weeks. They all attended the Museum for an Art and Craft Workshop with Julie Dargan which they enjoyed very much.

The Senior Group (1st Year to Leaving Certs) are now on holidays, but are welcome to come to work on the new mosaic (with the boys from 6th class in the school) starting on Saturday next 17th June. Adult Workteam have been so busy over the past few months, painting hoarding up at St. Anthony’s Unit, St. Luke’s Hospital, Painting scenery for The Pump House in Goatenbridge, working on the Logo for the Clonmel Rowing Club, repainting and varnishing hoardings for Cuan Saor and schools in the area, painting on an installation in Parnell St., and working with the 6th class in St. Peter and Paul’s School for their mural and mosaic! Much of the work has being completed with some left to finish.

The 55th. Annual STAG Art Exhibition by Adult Art Members will be launched on Wednesday 21st in Clonmel Library at 7 p.m by His Worship, The Mayor of Clonmel and District, Cllr. Pat English,. Over 70 Artworks, 2D and 3 D will be on display and for sale each and every one of the artwork on display would make great Wedding presents, Presentation gifts for that special Occasion or as reminders of home for our Clonmel Diaspora abroad! In the Exhibition, there are Oils, Acrylic, Watercolour, Pastel, Textile, Pyrography and abstract art in the 2D section and Resin Artwork, Fino Sculpture and Ceramics in the 3D section. Something for Everyone! Themes are very varied but local scenery comes to the fore as usual as many of our Artists are Plein Air Painters also.

STAG also displays more Artwork in Befani’s Restaurant, The Showground Shopping Centre, Minella Hotel Lesiure Centre, Slievenamon Golf Club, Lisronagh and we will be hanging Artwork again, very soon, in The Outpatient’s Corridor, Tipperary University Hospital, all for sale at very reasonable prices.

Primary Section are are completing their STOP MOTION Animation with Tutors Bobby and Patricia. Next Saturday they they will see their animation on screen!

Some of The Seniors, 1st year to Leaving Certs, have now commenced their Acrylic Painting on canvas boards with Tutor Maureen and some others are completing their landscape charcoal paintings with Tutor Almas. Well done to the Seniors who completed their silk paintings . However there are a few silk paintings still incomplete and members are asked to attend on Saturday to complete those not finished or collect those already finished. Please contact the Organiser if you are attending so that the silk paints can be brought in.
The Seniors will be painting their own floral designs on panels of the hoarding up at St. Anthony’s Unit, St. Luke’s Hospital, Glenconnor, if the weather is fine , some evenings this coming week . The Organiser will contact the Seniors re times etc. The new Mosaic, funded by the Arts Grant from Tipperary Co. Council ‘s Arts Office, to whom we are very grateful, is being designed at the moment and will be created by the 6th. class boys from St. Peter and Paul’s Primary School with Junior STAG members, and will commence shortly!

ADULT STAG
The beautiful painting of ‘Summer at Sir Thomas’ Bridge, Clonmel’ , by STAG Artist, Tony Barry, sold this week from the Showgrounds Shopping Centre, Waterford Road, Clonmel. Congratulations Tony! And Congrats also to Mary H. whose painting of the fabulous sunlit Hay Bales was sold from there lately!
The STAG Work Team of Winnie, Frances, Miriam, Tony, Noreen, Bartley, Dolores and Maureen have been very busy painting Local scenery on the 200 ft. grey hoarding panels up at St. Anthony’s Unit, Glenconnor. The hoarding is around the site of a new 60 bed Unit being built by the Sisk Company to accommodate many more eldery patients there, and as the hoarding obliterated the patients’ view of the mountains, STAG was asked to paint scenery on the grey panels!

There is just 5 weeks to STAG’s 55th. Annual Art Exhibition in Clonmel Library so all members are asked to attend either one or both of our Art sessions from now on.

STAG Adult Artists: The repainting of some of the hoarding that surrounded the Army Barracks last summer and that is in Moyglass School shelter  have now been completed and the Boards for Cuan Saor are being varnished this week and will be ready for collection shortly .  STAG Work Team have been asked to paint a mural on the 180 ft hoarding at St. Anthony’s Unit, Glenconnor Rd., –  a mammoth task,  and this we hope to start soon. Welcome to  three new members from the Ukraine, Natali, Maryna and Luda, all very keen and creative  artists. To buy a painting from any of the businesses that display our artwork, The Showgrounds , Befani’s Restaurant, Slievenamon Golf Club, Lisronagh and Minella Leisure Centre, please  contact the Organiser at 086 8096823.

Junior STAG Art Group, senior section, (1st year to Leaving Cert.) are completing their art books for  Clonmel Library  Art Project being organised by Artist and LIbrary Staff member, Paul Ryan.   All Artbooks will be digitised and be available on the net and as hard copy on the shelves in the library in the next few months. Paul,  has a great Exhibition in Clonmel Library at the moment, which will continue until St. Patrick’s weekend – well worth a visit. Some of the Seniors haven’t completed their silk painting yet so please attend on Saturday to complete these paintings, or to collect those already finished. One of our specialist  Tutors, Almas,  will continue with perspective drawing with 4 more Seniors which  will be of great benefit to those Seniors  intending to do architecture in college. The Primary Section (9 years to 6th Class) will complete their bubblewrap paintings on Sat. There are four places available in the Senior Section for new members but the Primary section is now full. JUNIOR STAG  The Mural on the hoarding at Kickham Barracks has been taken down, as part of the new construction is nearing completion! It has taken four solid months of painting by 48 Junior Art Members from 9 years to Leaving Certs. along with 15 Adult members to complete! It certainly brightened up a dull area of the mall and was greatly admired by the Community! STAG would like to acknowledge the financial support from the Arts Office, Tipperary Co. Council for the painting of this Mural and also Johnston’s Paints for their sponsorship.

Congratulations to adult members who sold Artwork  from the Showgrounds over the last few weeks   i.e.  Lesley Lynch’s  Batik  ‘Greensleeves’, Maureen Purcell’s Acrylic  `Busy on Clonmel’s Blueway’ and Helen Ryan’s Oil of  St. Patrick’s Well. We were also delighted to donate 12  artworks from STAG Adult Artists  to the Clonmel Twinning Committee for an Exhibition in their twin city of Peoria, USA which will take place shortly.

Junior STAG:Senior members( 1st year to Leaving Certs.) are being trained at the moment in face painting by face painting experts Connie Moloney ex Junior STAG  and Julie Dargan, Junior STAG Tutor, as well as doing charcoal and pastel drawings with Tutor, Annie Hogg. Some of the brave Primary Group and Seniors were models on Saturday for scary face painting! The Primary Group are busy making leaf prints and on Sat. next they will make up Autumn pictures using paint , their prints and markers!

The Bealtaine Festival occurs nationally in May every year and it supports creativity in older age through the local Arts Offices.

In April 2022 an 8 ft x 4 ft MDF Board was bought and sealed by the Facilitator, Maureen Purcell, STAG ORGANISER. Michael Conroy, carpenter, then made a frame for it. It was situated in the Infant School, Ss. Peter and Paul’s Primary School Kickham St. Clonmel. A call went out to members of the Clonmel and District Community for older people to participate in the Mosaic. This was the result!

Artwork from STAG for sale at the Art for Ukraine Project

STAG’s 54th Annual Adult Art Exhibition in Clonmel Library will be launched on Wednesday, 30th March by His Worship, the Mayor of Clonmel and District, Cllr. Michael Murphy, at 6 p.m. All are Welcome to attend.  The Exhibition will continue up to and including Saturday 9th April, open Library hours. Over 30 STAG Adult Art members will exhibit their Artworks, which will include many local scenes, in a wide variety of mediums, such as oil, watercolour, pencil/ pen, acrylic, and textiles and all are for sale at reasonable prices.

Because of Covid many of the usual suspects from the Adult and Junior Section were unable to participate in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade for STAG but a huge THANK YOU! to Bobby and Noreen, Margaret, Johnnie and Rachel, for doing the needful at the Parade and to the Juniors and parents who attended also – Much Appreciated!!  A great Parade by all accounts!!

The Juniors, both Primary and Seniors drew and painted fabulous Sunflowers in support of the people of Ukraine, which the Organiser got laminated.  Some of these and Artworks donated by Adult STAG, to the Art for Ukraine Project, are for sale on this coming Saturday 26th March in the Arts Centre in Clonmel.  See video below;

Congrats to Artists Marine Kearney, and Jacqueline Gartlan, ‘Artist’s Pledge for Ukraine’, who organised this worthwhile project in support of the People of Ukraine. Adult STAG:

We regret to announce the untimely death of the youngest member of the Adult STAG Work Team,  Artist, Kathryn O’Brien.

We in STAG  extend our deepest sympathy to Kathryn’s Mom, Nellie ( STAG Artist ), and her Dad,  Billy,  her sister Sharon and brother Liam and their families.

STAG News

Junior Art Members of STAG will be returning to the Art Room, Infant School, SS. Peter and Paul’s Primary School, on Saturday morning 15th January 2022 from 10. 30a.m to 12 noon for a 6 week session up to the mid term . The Primary section (age 9 to 6th class) will be drawing and paintng and using canvas panels so will need to bring paints with them. The Senior Section (1st yr to Leaving Certs) will contnue with lino printng and very soon will be doing a special course on Graffiti Art. Covid restrictons are in place and masks must be worn at all times.

Junior STAG 50th Anniversary Exhibiton is now running in the Upstairs Studio, Sureprint, Waterford Rd, Clonmel. Admission FREE. Open 8 a.m. to 1p.m. and 2p.m. to 4. 30p.m daily until the end of January, or by appointment for times outside of Sureprint Office hours, by contactng the STAG Organiser at 0868096823.

Adult STAG:

Because of Covid Restrictions, unfortunately we won’t be meetng in the Art Room on Tuesday nights and on Wednesday mornings in the Arts Centre for the moment. We will However, meet in the Art Room on Tuesdays from 5. 30 to 8 pm for the next few weeks and hopefully we’ll be able to revert to our usual times of 7. 30 pm soon.

Please let me know if you are coming and wear a mask if you are attending.

Junior STAG’s 50th anniversary exhibition was launched by the Mayor, Michael Murphy, in the upstairs studio of Sureprint Digital Ltd. Waterford Road, Clonmel, Saturday. 11 December 2021.

The artwork on display is by the STAG art students, nine years to Leaving Certs, from the last three years.
The exhibition is free and will run Mon to Fri, from 8am to 4. 30pm up to mid January 2022. (closed during the Christmas holidays 22 Dec 2021 to 04 Jan 2022)

All Covid restrictions are in place and masks must be worn.

STAG News

Junior STAG have now started on their 2nd x 6 week Art Session which will run up to and including Sat 18th. December. Membership is now closed for new members but a waiting list is in operation, Contact, The Organiser at 0868096823  for details.

Both sections ( Primary and Seniors) are now in the process of doing  the Enamel Casting  Art Project, with Sculptor, Philip and Liz Quinn, Holycross, Co. Tipperary. The Theme is ‘The Clonmel  Blueway’ with many great drawings relating to the theme being completed by the students. We will end up with a spectacular metal sculpture by Junior STAG members which will be displayed along the Clonmel Blueway. This Art project is quite a slow process, particularly as we have over 40 Junior STAG members and tutors involved.

Junior STAG would like to acknowledge and thank The Arts Office, Tipperary Co. Council, who  financially supported  us for this intricate Art Project.

Adult members are now back in the ART Room, St. Peter and Paul’s Primary School on Tuesday nights and in the Arts Centre on Wednesday mornings.  STAG requests that all members attending be vaccinated and wear a mask. All Covid restrictions are in place for Adult and Junior members.  Congrats to all the STAG artists, too numerous to mention, who sold artwork from Befani’s Restaurant and the Clonmel Showgrounds’ Shopping Centre over the last year and a half.  To the STAG Paint Crew, congrats. on the beautiful Murals in St. Peter and Paul’s Primary School atrium, in Le Cairde, Alzheimer’s Day Care Centre, the Halloween Roundabout at Tesco and who are now busy painting artwork for the Christmas Roundabout as well as completing another beautiful Mural on marine ply which will be displayed in a scenic location during 2022.

Drawing/Painting Challenge  for STAG Adult Members

During these times of Cocooning and Isolation we have decided to present a challenge to our members to occupy those extra hours. Works can be any medium and should be current, please submit photographs of finished work and they will feature on our home page over the coming weeks.

 

STAG Adult Artwork has been changed in Befanis Restaurant and Mr. Bumbles Restaurant in Clonmel and in Sievenamon Golf Club, Lisronagh but because of restrictions of access, social distancing  and closures, STAG is unable to change Artworks in My Cafe and in the Outpatient’s Corridor in Tipperary General Hospital.

 

A big Thank You to all the Front Line STAFF in the HSE , and all Businesses in Ireland but in Clonmel and Co. Tipperary in particular.

Hi all, in the interest of keeping the Corona Virus from spreading in the community and the fact that schools and the Arts Centre etc., in Clonmel are now closed, we have made the decision to cancel all Junior and Adult Art Sessions until further notice.

Adult STAG has just reopened on Tuesday night in the Art Room, Infant School, Ss. Peter and Paul’s Primary School Kickham St., Clonmel. For those  who wish to attend on Wednesday mornings,  STAG will reopen on Wed 2nd October  in the South Tipperary Arts Centre, Nelson St., Clonmel  from  10.30 am to 12.30.

New members, with a basic knowledge of Drawing/Painting are welcome at either or both of these sessions.

Many Thanks to Julian, Manager of the Showgrounds Shopping Centre, Waterford Road, who has facilitated STAG for a display of Artwork in Unit 6, much appreciated!

Congrats. to Dolores, Kate and Maureen who sold their paintings at the en plein air event during the Twin Trees Festival, Ballinakill Co. Laois.  A great weekend was had by the 12 STAG members who came to paint with Tony Robinson, Artist,  last weekend in Denis Burke Park and out at Inislounaght, Marlfied.

Junior STAG, Primary Group (9 years to 6th Class)  and Seniors (1st year to Leaving Cert)  started back last Saturday  with great drawing from both groups. Only a handful of places now available in both groups.  Contact the Organiser  at 086 8096823 for any details required.

Junior STAG, Primary and Senior Groups have been very busy in the past few weeks completing their Printing Course with Printer, Aoife Barrett, Galway as well as doing their appliqué and pottery courses with STAG Tutors Bobby and Lesley at the same time. Great results were achieved by all in each of the courses. We would like to acknowledge the financial support, through the Arts Grant from Tipperary Co. Council’s Arts Office, that facilitated Junior STAG’s 60 members from 9 years to Leaving Certs. to complete the Printing Course with Aoife Barrett. Very much appreciated indeed!

The students have just 4 more weeks to their summer holidays so we would ask the senior group( who are now on holidays) to attend right up to and including the 22ndJune as their Batik must be completed and they will be needed to help paint the infant school playground in Ss. Peter and Paul’s Primary School also during the next few weeks.

STAG Adults were delighted to present Sandra from Sanie’s Trust and Agnes from Clonmel Daffodil Day Fund( Cancer Night nurses) a cheque each for €1,100, being the proceeds from the very successful Charity Concert that STAG ran with several great choirs on Saturday May 4th in Old St. Mary’s Church, Clonmel. The Adult Art Group are now busy completing artworks for their 51st Annual Art Exhibition in Clonmel Library which will be officially launched on Tuesday 2nd July. Members are asked to attend on either Tuesday nights or Wednesday mornings for all the info re the Exhibition and the proposed en plein air outing to Co. Laois.
